May 12, 2008 is a grim day for all Chinese people. At 12:28, when we were undertaking our usual everyday activities -  getting together with our relatives, going shopping with our friends, or enjoying the nice day -  the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Wenchuan county of Sichuan province. Tremors were felt in cities including Hunan, Hubei and Shanghai and resulted in heavy casualties and loss of property.

"When disaster struck, help came from everywhere", the whole country was full of compassion, and the nation was very generous towards families of victims. Matsuoka Mechatronics had a lot of sympathy with those affected by the earthquake and senior management organized donations and called on all staff to support people in earthquake-stricken areas by putting up posters of lost family members..

What this showed was although a earthquake is merciless, people are merciful. Staff donations of nearly 80 thousand Yuan, was sent with the 500 thousand Yuan donated by the company to support earthquake victims. Matsuoka also bought much needed supplies, which amounted to 1.5 million Yuan, and worked with the Xiaoshan Charity Federation to transport goods to the disaster-stricken area.
